Frontier Youth Trust: Praying during the riots

Father we ask for peace. Not a fluffy emotional feeling … nor a comfortable compromise … nor the wellbeing of a few… but your deep peace of SHALOM for all. We are asking for justice, wholeness, wellbeing, fairness, mercy, understanding and compassion.

We pray for the victims of crime or violence and for those who have been hurt and harmed in the current troubles. We also pray against simplistic explanations of behaviour and knee jerk reactions to issues that are deep and require understanding and wisdom.

We pray for those working for peace in so many guises. We remember our brothers and sisters who are involved in youth work, Street Pastoring, StreetSpace and a host of Christian projects around the country – both within churches and on the streets. We also remember those who work for peace in ‘secular’ settings: for the police, street marshals, medics, youth workers, social workers, politicians, councillors, the fire services and perhaps especially for our media. We pray for businesses and communities - that they will find a new hope and strength as they work together to recover and regain some sense of normality.

We pray for the young people involved in rioting and ask that you will quicken conscience towards peaceful demonstration and dampen aggression, violence and crime. Strengthen community leaders, inspire compassion, ignite understanding and please let justice and mercy walk together in our thinking and actions.

We offer these prayers through your son, our Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Parachute Fun Days 2011

The final Parachute Fun Day of the summer took place today - it was on the story of Naaman and the little maid. There were games, puppet theatre in the garden, drama, banner making, swords and shields, wooden puppet making, refreshments, fishing in the Jordan and skin complaints! Something for everyone. Thanks to everyone who came and supported the events and to all the helpers who made it all possible. The next one will be in the October half-term.

On Monday 20th September at 7:30 p.m. there will be a joint church meeting at the Link when members present will be invited to indicate whether or not they wish to call the minister to serve the Malvern and Worcester pastorate.
Regular worshippers at Holly Mount who are not members will also be invited to take part in the meeting and will be given the opportunity to indicate their wishes. This is such an important decision that a half hour prayer meeting will be held prior to the meeting, starting at 7 p.m.

Sometime when we read the Bible we take note of what happened but overlook the people caught up in the action. This series of monologues aims to take you to the centre of those events.

The evening covers the construction of the universe and some of the events of the Old Testament. It then moves to incidents in the life and ministry of Jesus and the development of the the early church.

The evening concludes by focussing on the events surrounding the first Christmas and beyond.

By looking into the hearts of those ordinary people who were part of extraordinary happening, you will be taken to the heart of the Gospel stories.

Tours of the garden showing: Artwork including that produced by local schools and youth groups on the theme of creation; and a triptych of carvings in the Resurrection Space; Planting to date; Mosaicing in the terraces;

Displays on future plans;

Displays by the artists, designers, architects, teachers and nursery specialists involved in the project;

Work in progress on the Jesse Tree;
